The Highlands Police Department has recently started The Police Explorers Post #1900. The program is a young adult career education program for both young men and women between the ages of 15-20 or 14 years of age and who have graduated the eighth grade. Through experimental learning, the Explorer Program will promote the conditions needed for growth and development. Participants will gain insight to law enforcement and will be able to experience the life of a police officer first hand. They will also develop life skills and build character, through service learning and hands-on career activities.
The program will be available to residents of the Borough of Highlands and surrounding municipalities. The Highlands Police Department will conduct monthly meetings and training in such areas as: first aid, traffic control, self-defense and crime prevention. Explorers who complete a training course will be eligible to participate in Ride-A-Longs with Highlands Police Department officers during their regular tour of duty.
The success or failure of the Explorer Program will be measured through it’s participants, which is why the main quality the post wishes to exemplify, is professionalism; and as an Explorer you will learn to lead and respectfully represent the Department.
If you have any questions regarding the Explorer Program or would like to join, please contact Patrolmen William Siegle or Ian Dobens at 732-872-1158
