We all take the safety of our children very serious. 90% of all child seats are IMPROPERLY installed. 

Effective December 1, 2001, New Jersey’s child passenger safety law requires:

• Children up to age 8 or 80 pounds must ride in a safety or booster seat in the rear seat of a vehicle.
• Infant Seats, designed for children up to 1 year old and usually 20 pounds. Infant seats must always be rear facing.
• Forward-facing seats, designed for children over 1 year old between 20 and 40 pounds. Toddler seats are always positioned forward facing.
• Booster seats, designed for children between 40 and 80 pounds. These seats raise the child so the vehicles lap and shoulder belt fits properly and allows the knees to bend.

HPD currently has two Police Officers who are certified Child Safety Seat technicians. Although we plan on continuing to run child seat instructional checkpoints, please feel free to contact Ptl. Matt Chesek or Ptl. William Siegle to set up an appointment to inspect your child seat(s).
